This is likely to be the basic level of lighting detail for Phoenix USC. I’ll be making improvements as I go to shading and alike, but this lighting model works well for real-time gaming. As far as Alien Phoenix goes I’l be expanding it as far as I can, this is sort of an example the basic game lighting you can expect from isometric maps.
Totally cool that this is all 2D.

A little hefty at 27MB and way early but should be fun to experiment with. I’ll be updating it soon.
The editor is sort of a mess at the moment but usable. Use the ‘A’ key to set a base (first level) part and the ‘C’ key to layer up and place a part on top of another. Use the ‘Z’ key to undo. You can only go up 10 layers else it messes up. Like I said this is way early and just here to give you all a look-see.
The space bar will stop the ship from moving which helps with editing. The X key also will lay down a base level part but as a floor. .. I’ll make this all clearer soon with next update.
I’ll make some improvements and post a new demo soon. I’ll also post more info on what to do editor wise. This is just up for fun and testing.
Be sure to use chrome or other fast browser.
Been recovering from illness, but back at coding now. 🙂

One side note is that all of this flickering when shooting might cause dizziness, I would not say exactly that it might be like an epilepsy because it varies from person to person. Perhaps spaceships would cast a permanent light below them so it makes the game visually better (lighting effects are cool) and perhaps if the lasers are shot the laser intensity might be only a little, not to cause that strobe light effect.July 4, 2019 at 1:08 pm #16239

Subtle is the art of game lighting. 😉 The latest version quells lighting from impacts and only imparts impact lighting to the buildings. Which all helps with any visual strobe effect as the floor no longer involved in impact lighting. But, always experimenting and refining.
Considering this is all 2D I find the 3D effect fascinating. The fact that I can light the scene real-time convincingly with mojo 2D lighting is pretty slick.. and do it in a web browser at 1080p 60fps on a gaming PC. Pretty cool.
It’s a real case for what you can do with Monkey2 and Emscripten. Webassebly is awesome and when combined with good hardware and browser software can deliver near native performance in a web browser. It’ makes me wonder if Monkey2’s real future is an exclusivity to Emscripten (edit- and Linux).July 11, 2019 at 11:03 pm #16251
I’ve added some color to the floor and added a nice texture. All weapon, impact and explosion images now default to an additive blend which works great. 🙂
